President Hurwitz to help dedicate new Southwest Regional Center
Alumni are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Gallaudet University Southwest Regional Center in Austin, Tex. on Wednesday, January 12 at 2 p.m.

Prominent tree next to Peikoff Alumni House succumbs to disease
A large American elm tree in front of Peikoff Alumni House, ("Ole Jim"), met its demise after a bout with Dutch elm disease. The tree was cut down and another will be planted.

Historic film selected for National Film Registry
On December 28, the Library of Congress announced it had named the landmark film, "The Preservation of the Sign Language," for inclusion in the National Film Registry.

Victor Galloway, '51, featured in newpaper
Galloway was featured in the "Austin American-Statesman" about his battle with Alzheimer's disease, and his wife, Marilyn, talks about the need for a support group for patients living with the disease.

National Academic Bowl volunteeers needed
Gallaudet will host the 15th National Academic Bowl on campus March 5-8. Volunteers are needed to welcome members of the 85 teams from across the country.

South Africa Study Abroad
The XVI World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf will be held in Durban, South Africa, July 17-24. A Gallaudet South Africa Abroad course will be offered during the spring semester and is open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Summit on American Sign Language/English Bilingual Early Childhood Education for Deaf Children to be held at Gallaudet
Gallaudet's Department of Education is proud to host the second Summit on American Sign Language/English Bilingual Early Childhood Education for Deaf Children at the University on April 8 and 9.
