Names of outstanding individuals are needed for GUAA and Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund awards. Winners will be recognized at the annual Charter Day program in April 2015. Note: The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, October 1.

Gallaudet alumnus invited to join Board of Trustees
Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen, '92, G-'05 & H-'09, one of Visionary Leaders during Gallaudet's 150th anniversary and the first deaf woman elected to the South African Parliament in 1999, has been invited to join the Board of Trustees. She begins her term at the October 2014 meeting.

Longtime advocate and leader Gertrude Scott Galloway, '51, G-'93 & H-'02, passed away Thursday, July 17 at the age of 83.

With the passing of Dr. Robert F. Panara, '45 & H-'85, on Sunday, the deaf community lost a much-loved educator, pioneer, baseball fan, and friend to many.

New Benson Barracks Building Gets Rededicated For Deaf Education Pioneer
The memory of Army 1st. Lt. Elizabeth English Benson, G-'32, former dean of students and a pioneer in deaf education at the time, was honored at Fort Sam Houston in 1973 when newly constructed barracks building 1382 was named in her honor, recognizing her contributions to Army Medicine in the field of deaf education and tutoring wounded Soldiers.

Gallaudet students name new bison at Smithsonian National Zoo
Because of our shared mascot, students from Gallaudet and Howard Universities had the unique opportunity of naming two new female American bison at the Smithsonian National Zoo.

Honorary degree nominations sought
