Alumni eNewsletter: Gallaudet Strategic Plan update (Archives)

March 25, 2010

Dear Campus Community:

I am writing to you to provide you with an update to our Gallaudet Strategic Plan 2010-2015 (GSP). For almost three months I have been working with the Board of Trustees, our administrators, and with many other members of the Gallaudet community, discussing and planning for the implementation of the GSP. As I have shared with you before, it is vitally important that the strategic plan provide the broadest possible opportunities for meaningful participation by members of the community and provide for real accountability to ensure the success of the GSP.

To accomplish these two goals, I have asked the Provost and the Vice President for Administration and Finance to provide the primary leadership and accountability for the Gallaudet Strategic Plan and to establish teams to work for the clusters of strategies and action plans under each of the five goal areas. The Provost and the Vice President identified members of their staff who will assist them in coordinating these teams and will be working to provide the budget necessary to support their activities. In the coming weeks, they will establish implementation teams that will provide broad opportunities for community participation.

Please remember that BOT-approved priorities for FY 2010 are: Goal A (recruitment), and Goal B (retention and graduation rates), along with the Program Prioritization Task Force (PPTF) and the Work Force Analysis. Strategies and action plans in Goal C (revenues and efficiencies), Goal D (academic programs), and Goal E (research and outreach) that support these FY 2010 priorities will also be implemented this year.

I invite you to visit the new Gallaudet Strategic Plan web site at; it includes an organizational map of the implementation and accountability plan, and a great deal of related material.

I look forward to working with all members of Gallaudet community in implementing "a bold vision for a bright future" – the Gallaudet Strategic Plan 2010-2015.

Warm regards,

T. Alan Hurwitz
