With the 25th anniversary of the Deaf President Now (DPN) protest fast approaching, both the Gallaudet University Alumni Association (GUAA) and Gallaudet University have been busy planning events to mark this important milestone in deaf history.
The GUAA Board has been hard at work planning a panel discussion, which will be live streamed, featuring the four student leaders who led the protest. Bridgetta Bourne Firl, '89 & G-'92, Jerry Covell, '89, Greg Hlibok, '90, and Tim Rarus, '89, will share their experiences in front of a live audience in the campus TV studio. The event will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2-3:30 p.m. It will be shown on gutv.gallaudet.edu. Alumni will have an opportunity to email their questions during the event (details will be forthcoming).
The GUAA Board is hosting the panel discussion in recognition of the worldwide impact DPN had on deaf people. The time for the panel was chosen so that alumni in Europe and elsewhere can view it at a convenient time, the same as their counterparts in the U.S. The board has also been working with chapters to help them organize events so they can watch the live panel together and celebrate. The goal is to have as many alumni as possible watch the event, and afterward send pictures along with a short story to the Alumni Relations Office, to be shared in an upcoming issue of the Alumni e-newsletter and Gallaudet Today newsletter.
The Alumni Relations office is planning a reception for alumni to take place following the panel at Peikoff Alumni House, 4-6 p.m. The student leaders and the seven "Ducks" will be in attendance. There will be hors d'oeuvres, a program, and an opportunity for alumni to mingle with these influential leaders from DPN.
Because "Ole Jim" was the site of many pivotal events in DPN, a special exhibit of pictures and artifacts from the protest will be displayed in the conference room and hallway of the Alumni House.
Seating for both the live panel and reception is limited, so be sure and get your tickets early to be part of the full experience of the DPN 25th anniversary celebration.

We look forward to seeing you at DPN 25th on Saturday, March 9!
Gallaudet is also planning a wide range of events from February to April to celebrate DPN. More information on the schedule of events is forthcoming.
