At the GUAA Board of Directors meeting in April 2018, the Board approved a new annual award in honor of Dr. Gertrude Scott Galloway. The Gertrude Scott Galloway, ’51, PhD ’93, & H-’02, Advocacy and Social Justice Award recognizes an individual who has been a strong advocate for social justice for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Board feels that it is important to recognize people who have made a difference in our community through their advocacy.

This award is named in honor of Dr. Galloway, the first woman president of the National Association of the Deaf and Deaf Seniors of America and the first Deaf woman superintendent of the deaf school in New Jersey, who exemplifies the kind of individual we seek to honor. This award will be presented for the first time at the 50th annual GUAA/Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund Charter Day brunch and awards program in April 2019.

The deadline for nominations is October 1, 2018.
