Gallaudet University's Office of Alumni Relations, the Bison Booster Club, and the Department of Athletics invite you to join the Seventh Annual Alumni Basketball Madness on Saturday, February 8, 2003 from 12 p.m. - 12 midnight in the Gallaudet Field House. Ad added treat will be apresentation by Marsha Wetzel, the first deaf woman basketball referee in NCAA Division I. Wetzel, who received two bachelor degrees from Gallaudet in 1985 and 1990 (Recreation and Leisure Students, and Physical Education respectively) has been a basketball referee for several years and recently was promoted to officiate in NCAA Division I games. She earned her master's degree in Athletic Administration in 1993 from Springfield College in Massachusetts and a second master's degree in Deaf Education in 1998 from Western Maryland College. She is currently an instructor at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and sports assistant program coordinator at Rochester Institute of Technology. Wetzel will talk about her experience in becoming a basketball referee and answer questions from the audience. Her presentation will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Building. Free admission and refreshments will be served.
